In the enclave city-state of Monaco, the holy Catholic feast day of Corpus Christi has public holiday status. That’s not surprising seeing as 83 percent of the population is Catholic.

The holiday is also called “The Procession of the Blessed Sacrament”, in reference to the colourful street parades that follow the special masses held on this day. The holiday is dedicated to celebrating the “real presence” of the body and blood of Christ in the bread and wine of the Eucharist.
Corpus Christi falls on the Thursday immediately after Trinity Sunday, which places it 60 days after Easter Sunday. It ranks as one of the most important of all Catholic holidays, due to the immense importance of holy communion and the doctrine of transubstantiation in Roman Catholicism.
