North Macedonia has Easter on its calendar like few other countries do! It officially observes Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. And since both the Julian and Gregorian Calendar dates are recognised, you can double that from four days of observance to eight!

However, most believers in North Macedonia are Eastern Orthodox and observe Orthodox Easter dates. Attending church, visiting friends and relatives, and getting out to enjoy the spring weather are all a part of Easter in North Macedonia. Extremely decorative egg painting is another tradition. Special Easter dishes include kukurec, which is lamb intestines cooked with white wine, and shirden, which is stuffed lamb’s stomach. Many will also consume tulumba, a kind of fried pastry, and drink rakija, which is Macedonian brandy, or fermented milk.
