Christmas on Guernsey is celebrated with a public holiday every 25 December, as it is in a majority of countries around the world. This Christian festivity commemorates the birth of Jesus, and is part of a 22-28 day season in the Christian calendar known as Advent.

Guernsey is a wonderful getaway spot in the English Channel, and it celebrates Christmas is unique ways that attract many tourists from the UK, France, and beyond each Advent season.

The streets of Guernsey Island’s towns are lit up and full of Christmas shoppers this time of year. Many explore the island to find quaint little Christmas shops on Herm Island or to visit the Christmas market in Market Square at Saint Peter Port. Late-night shopping is popular here too, and shoppers are serenaded by Christmas carollers as they go from store to store.

Santa Claus shows up to accept wish-letters from children in Guernsey each year at Saint Peter Port. Old Saint Nick also has the job of switching on the festive lights. Finally, many enjoy the ice skating rink on Guernsey during the holidays and the inspiring Christmas carol services.
