New Year’s Day is a time of resolutions and starting fresh for some, while for others it is spent recovering from a big, late night spent with friends and family.
Many in Albania begin preparing for the New Year season days or weeks in advance. They do a lot of the things other nations do as far as celebrating New Year’s Day and Eve, but they also have a few unique traditions as well.
There are many concerts and dancing events and competitions on New Year’s Eve or around then. Many will sing, dance, and play music as they welcome the new year at home or at a public event.
Homes are cleaned thoroughly before the new year begins, and colourful decorations and lights are put up. Many also attend fireworks displays, exchange gifts, and take care to wish family and friends a happy new year.
