Easter Monday is an official holiday in Gibraltar, and Easter Sunday is celebrated robustly. As there are both Catholic and Protestant communities in Gibraltar, there are a variety of religious services on Easter and on the night before, known as Holy Saturday.

You can expect delicious dinners, family gatherings, parades, religious services and events, greeting cards, painted eggs, bunnies, chocolate in abundance, and most other typical Easter traditions to be kept here in Gibraltar as in most other Christian lands.
However, many will also take the opportunity to head for the beaches on Easter Weekend, go on picnics, or hike up to the nature reserve atop “The Rock“ where they can view Barbary apes and catch a wonderful panoramic view of the city and the adjacent Mediterranean Sea.
During the springtime, you can also see hordes of migrating butterflies, a wide variety of African birdlife, and dolphins and whales active near the Gibraltar shore. Easter and early spring are the time of year that Gibraltar really starts to come alive, and it’s a big tourist season with visitors from the UK, Spain, and all over Europe and the world.
